Race Across the World’s Anita Rani has recently found love again after her 2023 divorce and says she is ‘having a nice time’ with new beau Alex Lavery

Countryfile star Anita Rani says she doesn’t want to “jinx” her new relationship as she admits she would consider tying the knot with her new boyfriend. Anita, 48, split from ex-husband Bhupi Rehal in 2023.

Last year she went public with new boyfriend Alex Lavery, admitting she finds him “fun and fit” as well as a “beautiful soul”. Alex and Anita bonded over their shared love of music, attending festivals such as Green Man and Glastonbury together.

And this year the couple plan to spend Christmas together, although Anita admits they will have an “open-door policy” for their friends. Speaking to Fabulous magazine, she says she wants to “do something wild and spread some good vibes”.

When asked about the possibility of a second wedding, Anita says the couple are “having a nice time”. She added: “You know, when you meet someone who’s vibrant and you think: ‘Alright, it’s on.’

“I don’t want to jinx it, we’re having a nice time. We’ll see. I don’t know how I feel [about getting married again]. I don’t feel like I need to live by convention.”

Anita, who stars in Celebrity Race Across the World with dad Balvinder, says she is in a “rad space” at the moment. She describes living on her own as “liberating” and says it is “really important” for women to see.

She has previously opened up about her “dark year” after the breakdown of her marriage. Speaking to Woman magazine, she said: “It’s been a very dark, very traumatic year. I’m just going to be taking a moment to remember what I’ve got.”

It came after she admitted she felt like her life was a “blank slate” following the split.

She explained: “I feel like I’ve stepped into a place that I never, ever expected myself to be in. I’m in uncharted territory. I’m a single, Asian woman with no children, and do you know what? I love it! I’ve sort of got a blank slate in front of me, and that feels really good.”

While Anita says her marriage ended on good terms, with the couple simply drifting apart, she admits that getting a divorce as a Punjabi woman wasn’t easy.

She says it is seen as “quite a big deal” and admits that divorced women are often seen as “pariahs”.

Anita says she has had many women coming up to her and saying “well done” since the split. It comes as the Women’s Hour presenter admits more and more of her own guests have been “challenging social norms”.

“It’s inspiring and empowering. Generally, any woman being in their 40s by themself is a difficult thing,” she concludes.
