Cris Collinsworth is on the joke — and perhaps it can win you some money.
Prediction market Polymarket is allowing Super Bowl 2026 bettors to wager on whether Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — not playing in the Big Game for the first time in four years — will be mentioned on the NBC broadcast when the Patriots battle the Seahawks.
This market is seemingly a nod to NBC’s analyst affinity for Mahomes, and the market, as of Thursday afternoon, sat at $0.84 for Yes and $0.35 for No.
“I probably will say Patrick Mahomes and I have no idea why,” Collinsworth joked this week on Radio Row. “Now that you planted it in my head, I assume you bet the Over so you’re trying to get me to do that.
“I have no idea or no plans of what I’m going to do, but I’ve read those things. You can’t help but, right? The people put them in front of your face all the time.”
Collinsworth’s affection for Mahomes has become a running gag, with folks commenting on how he basically has deified the Chiefs’ star.
The former NFL receiver even acknowledged his tendency to do so during a 49ers-Bears “Sunday Night Football” game earlier this year, commenting after a nice play by San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy on how the reaction — including his — would be had Mahomes done the same play.
“If this were Patrick Mahomes, we’d be screaming, ‘Oh Patrick Mahomes.’ I know I would be screaming it,” Collinsworth said in December, as transcribed by Awful Announcing.
Collinsworth will instead be watching Drake Maye and Sam Darnold clash Sunday, with both aiming to win their first championship.
Just don’t be surprised at some point if you hear Maye or Darnold compared to Mahomes.
“It’s fun. You begin to think about things in a way that you understand 130 million people are listening to everything you say and that you will take apart whatever that is and have fun with it, and it’s like in this world today, if you do my job, you’re just the dartboard,” Collinsworth said on Radio Row.
“You guys get all the darts. But it’s fun. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, and I love the position I’m to just sit there and watch this game play out.”
