Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed the 2026 World Cup will be his last for Portugal.
Ronaldo will be 41 years of age by the time the finals come round next summer and the Al-Nassr striker conceded it will be his final chance to perform on the global stage.
Asked if the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico will be his World Cup swansong, he said: “Definitely, yes, because I will be 41 years old and I think it will be the moment, and in a big competition.
“As I told you before, I am enjoying the moment, but when I mean soon, it’s really soon because I give everything for football, I’m in the game for the last 25 years, I did everything, I have many records in the different scenarios in the clubs and also in the national team – I’m really proud.
“So let’s enjoy the moment and live the moment.”

Ronaldo – I am counting the months very quick
Speaking via video link at the TOURISE Riyadh event, Ronaldo clarified his remark in an interview with Piers Morgan last week that he would retire “soon”.
“When I mean soon…. I’m really enjoying the moment right now,” he added. “As you know in football, when you reach some age you count the months very quick.
“So, the moment is good, I feel very good in this moment, I score goals, I still feel quick and sharp, I’m enjoying my game in the national team and Al-Nassr, but of course, let’s be honest, when I mean ‘soon’ it’s probably one, two years I’ll still be in the game.
“My goal in football is the same as in my personal life: I want to make people happy, myself, my fans, my family, but also the world, because as you know, I have fans all over the world.”
Ronaldo’s decision to leave Manchester United for the Saudi Pro League in 2023 raised eyebrows but the former Real Madrid star says he feels fully immersed in life in the Middle East.
He said: “I believe in this project, I believe in football and the people of the league. The championship has immense potential for the future. The Saudi League has grown immensely in the last three years, the passion that the Saudis have for football is crazy.
That’s why I’m happy, I’m part of this. As I say to the Saudis, I’m one of them, I’m also Saudi.”
