Darren Waller’s comeback has been halted for the time being.

The Dolphins tight end landed on injured reserve Wednesday with a pec strain following a scintillating start to the year in his retirement.

Waller suffered the injury during the team’s 31-6 loss to the Browns last Sunday, and is eligible to return in Week 12, although the scuffling Dolphins may be playing out the string at that point.

“It was soft tissue,” Miami coach Mike McDaniel said Monday, per ESPN. “It’s a situation that probably it would be living in hope to see him in the upcoming next weeks’ games, but he’ll be diligent. This means a lot to him, but that’s kind of where I’m at with it right now with the information I have.”

Waller returned to the NFL this year after retiring following his disappointing lone 2023 season with the Giants.

The 33-year-old decided retirement did not suit him and pursued a comeback, leading to the Giants trading him to the Dolphins this summer.

Waller missed the first three weeks with a hip injury suffered during training camp before returning in grand fashion in Week 4 against the Jets.

He tallied three catches for 27 yards and two scores in Miami’s lone win in this 1-6 campaign, before grabbing five balls for 78 yards and one touchdown in a tight loss to the Bills the following week.

The veteran made it three straight games with a score in Week 6 when he found the end zone while tallying two catches for 12 yards in a Week 6 loss to the Chargers.

The streak ended this past week when Waller exited before even being targeted.

He has 10 catches for 117 yards and four touchdowns spanning his four games.

It’s too early to tell if this injury marks the end of Waller’s career, considering he returned from retirement and injuries have plagued him throughout his career.

The Dolphins added Greg Dulcich from their practice squad to replace him.

Miami aims to to rebound from the tough loss Sunday on the road against Atlanta.
