Just before the impact, the animal made an unexpected move, despite initially appearing stationary on the sidewalk alongside another deer.

A witness said, “The deer had stopped, but right at the last moment it suddenly darted out.”

Less than a second passed between the animal’s sudden movement and the collision, after which the deer ran off.

In a separate incident in Toyokawa, Aichi, a minivan traveling ahead exhibited dangerous driving behavior by signaling and entering a convenience store parking lot before rapidly accelerating.

The vehicle then signaled again as it reentered the roadway, overtaking a white car in front.

According to traffic law expert Takayama, such actions may constitute violations including improper lane usage, which can carry penalties of up to three months in detention or fines of up to 50,000 yen.
