Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has revealed that he’s spent 70 weeks in therapy after he disclosed that he’d fathered a child outside of his marriage to his wife Jordyn Blum

Dave Grohl has spent hundreds of hours in therapy. The Foo Fighters frontman said he’s been visiting his therapist six times a week for 70 weeks.

In 2024, the legendary rock man announced that he’d become a dad from “outside of my marriage, ” and told fans in a social media statement he was doing “everything” to “regain the trust” of his wife, Jordyn Blum, and daughters Violet, Harper and Ophelia.

It was later claimed that a possible tour from the band the following year had been shelved. Now, in a frank admission, Dave, 57, has revealed the toll his infedelity had on him and how it spurred him on to attend therapy sessions.

“I’ve been in therapy six days a week for 70 weeks,” he said. The Best of You musician went on to add: “I did the math the other day: over 430 sessions.” When asked if his infedelity had contributed to his decision, he said that there were “so many” factors which led to his decision.

Speaking to The Guardian, Grohl added: “I have to be perfectly honest. Writing songs and writing lyrics about these things is sometimes enough. As far as having a deeper, longer conversation about them, I still do reserve a lot of this for my own personal life, as impersonal and public as it may seem.”

He told the outlet that there were “many reasons,” after he found himself in a place which saw him re-evaluate himself. “It’s an ongoing process,” he said. Attending therapy sessions for Dave has helped change his outlook on life after being pulled in “different directions”.

Following his admission about cheating on his wife, he said he had to “turn everything off,” including worrying about what others thought of him. Meanwhile, bassist Nate Mendel said he was “of course” worried about the reputation of the band being damaged due to the controversy.

In September 2024, Dave said: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

He added: “We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave.” Representatives for the musician also dismissed a viral social media post by a woman claiming to be the child’s mother.

Dave has been married to model and TV producer Jordyn Blum, 48, since 2003. Together, the couple share three daughters: Violet Maye, born in 2006; Harper Willow, born in 2009; and Ophelia Saint, born in 2014.

Jordyn is Dave’s second wife, as he was previously married to photographer Jennifer Leigh Youngblood. The marriage lasted from 1994 until 1997 – and, according to reports, Dave eventually admitted he cheated on her. The Guardian reported in 2007: “The admitted infidelities that led to his divorce from first wife Jennifer Youngblood in 1997. [This] caused the departure from the Foo Fighters ranks of Pat Smear, latterly Nirvana’s auxiliary guitarist and a close friend of Youngblood.”

On his divorce from his first wife, Dave said in 1999: “I was 25, my wife was even younger. We weren’t ready to get married. I miss her a ton, she’s the funniest goddamn weirdo you ever met in your life. Absolutely adorable. It would have been better had we not got married. But you live and you learn.”
