Hyderabad:Construction workers engaged on the Chanchalguda–Santoshnagar steel flyover project on Tuesday were seen following safety protocols, including wearing helmets and protective gear, while safety nets were installed on the bars. The move comes after Deccan Chronicle published the story “Workers risk lives on flyover project” on March 3, highlighting unsafe practices. A video showing workers without safety equipment had also gone viral on social media.

Following the report, workers at the site told Deccan Chronicle that they are now adhering to precautions, including helmets, safety dress and shoes.

However, a supervisor deputed at the project claimed that despite being provided with safety equipment, workers often avoid using it due to negligence, which was evident in the viral video.

Reacting to the report, a senior GHMC official said the agency executing the works has been strictly instructed to follow construction safety standards. “Not just at the Chanchalguda–Santoshnagar steel flyover project, the agencies have been instructed to adhere to safety protocols while executing the works,” the official added.
