If we got to dress Morticia Addams in high fashion, it would be this Gaurav Gupta couture look custom-made for Deepika Padukone. The actor and entrepreneur attended the Cartier Gala in Dubai in what at first glance appears to be a gown, but is in fact a jacket and skirt so precisely aligned they read as one uninterrupted form, despite the edges.
The jacket’s contoured shoulders curve outward before tapering back into the body, creating a strong upper frame with a sweeping, open neckline. From there, the line drops straight into a full-length skirt.

The look takes its cue from Starfall, one of the key silhouettes from Gupta’s SS26 couture collection, The Divine Androgyne, showcased at Paris Haute Couture Week last month. The most telling detail in Gupta’s look for Padukone is the use of metal. Not embroidery in the usual sense, but clusters of miniature watch components, hand-applied across the black surface.
Stylist Priyanka Kapadia Badani pairs the look with Cartier jewellery: drop earrings set with clustered stones, and a close-set diamond necklace that sits low on the collarbone, tapering into a single oval drop that follows the plunge of the neckline. Yianni Tsatori slicked the hair back in a high bun. Savleen Manchanda created a smoky eye look against a mauve shadow base, adding sculpting blush at the high points of her cheekbones and a tonal lip.

“Drape a few strings of dainty chain mail to the hair and let a few strings loose. This will cut through the high-octane power shoulder and roughen it up without losing its black-tie appeal,” says Vogue India Fashion associate Manglien Gangte.
