Delhi air quality remained ‘very poor’ on Thursday.
Delhi Air Quality update: A thick blanket of toxic smog enveloped Delhi on Friday as the air quality in the national capital continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category for the second consecutive day, with the city recording an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 332.
Delhi AQI deteriorates
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, 30 of Delhi’s 40 monitoring stations logged AQI levels in the ‘very poor’ bracket, while Jahangirpuri was sole station to breach the 400-mark, recording an AQI of 405, in the ‘severe’ category.
On Thursday, Delhi’s air quality had slipped back to the ‘very poor’ category as the city’s 24-hour average AQI dropped to 307, after showing a marginal improvement in the last two days. In contrast, Delhi’s AQI stood at 267 on Wednesday, while the city had recorded an AQI of 291 on Tuesday, indicating a steady improvement in the air quality.
An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 to 500 ‘severe’, as per CPCB standards.
Delhi air quality to remain ‘very poor’
According to Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), Delhi is unlikely to see any improvement in air quality till Saturday, with AQI levels likely to remain in the ‘very poor’ category. The outlook for the subsequent six days also states that the air is likely to remain in the very poor band, it says.
Meanwhile, on the weather front, Delhi’s minimum temperature settled at 8 degrees Celsius, 0.6 notches below normal, while the relative humidity was recorded at 100 per cent, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
