Hyderabad:The New Employees Health Scheme (NEHS), meant for government employees, pensioners and their eligible family members, has covered 919 hospitals— 778 private and 141 state-run — and approved cashless treatment for 15,395 cases since its launch on July 17, according to a statement issued here Sunday. The approved treatments have been valued at ₹104.63 crore. The police department was brought under the scheme from September 1, said the government in a release.

The scheme is funded through a monthly contribution of 1.5 per cent each from the basic pay or basic pension of employees and pensioners and an equal contribution from the government. The employee and pensioner contribution is estimated at ₹44 crore a month, with the government contributing another ₹44 crore, taking the monthly fund to ₹88 crore. Funds for three months have been transferred to the trust. The annual budget for the scheme has been estimated at ₹1,056 crore.

The scheme also covers outpatient services. Consultations, diagnostic tests and medicines are being provided cashlessly at wellness centres. At present, 12 wellness centres are functioning across 12 districts. Proposals have been prepared to establish another 25 wellness centres, including 21 in different districts and four in Hyderabad and Medchal-Malkajgiri. Once operational, the total number of wellness centres will rise to 37.

For inpatient treatment, 1,816 CGHS treatment packages are being implemented. The packages cover treatment, medicines, diagnostic tests, consumables, implants and follow-up medical services. In emergencies, beneficiaries can get admitted to the nearest empanelled hospital without a prior referral. However, the details have to be communicated to the trust within the prescribed time.

Officials have also clarified that eligible beneficiaries should not be denied treatment for not having received a health card. Employees and pensioners can access services using their identification numbers. As of September 28, health cards had been made available to 12,56,962 beneficiaries, of whom 7,56,210 had downloaded them.

Treatment approvals included 3,192 cases of employees amounting to ₹18.75 crore and 5,669 cases of their family members amounting to ₹39.52 crore. For pensioners, 4,042 cases worth ₹29.27 crore were approved, while 2,492 cases involving their family members were approved for ₹17.08 crore.
