Elisabeth Moss and Fred Armisen separated a few months after they got married

Elisabeth Moss is currently single. However, she was once married to actor and comedian, Fred Armisen. The duo’s first meeting dates back to the time when Moss was a cast member of Saturday Night Live in 2008. Elisabeth and Fred met on the set of the show. In 2009, Elisabeth confirmed while speaking to USA Weekend that she and Fred were engaged. Moss did not share a lot of details, except that the engagement happened a few days before the interview.

Elisabeth and Fred eventually tied the knot shortly after they got engaged in 2009. The pair did not organise a grand wedding ceremony, and it was held in Long Island City. The marriage did not last long, with Moss filing for divorce in 2010 due to irreconcilable differences. According to PEOPLE, Elisabeth and Fred were married for only eight months. The divorce was finalized in 2011. An insider for PEOPLE had once alleged that the former couple’s work schedule and long-distance relationship contributed to their separation. In 2013, Fred was heard addressing the split by saying:
“I think I was a terrible husband; I think I am a terrible boyfriend. I want it all… fast. I want to be married, I want to live together… and then somewhere around a year or two years, I get freaked out. I freak out emotionally, and then I actually feel like, ‘Oh my God, who’s this stranger in my house?’”

Fred Armisen also has had a successful career in films and TV shows. He initially started in the world of music and was a part of the punk band, Trenchmouth. Fred contributed to many of the group’s albums, including Snakebite, Inside the Future, and more. Armisen released many other albums, like Portlandia with Carrie Brownstein, KFC Nashville Hot Record, Parade Meeting, and 100 Sound Effects. Fred was first seen on television as an interviewer in the HBO series, Reverb, from 1997 to 2001.

He has portrayed ‘Langham’ in an episode of Modern Family and hosted the 30th Independent Spirit Awards in 2015. Elisabeth Moss is playing the lead role in Imperfect Women

Among her upcoming lineup, Elisabeth Moss will be seen as ‘Mary’ in the Apple TV+ series, Imperfect Women. The psychological thriller is scheduled to premiere on March 18, 2026, and it is adapted from a novel of the same name written by Araminta Hall, who is one of the executive producers of the show. Apart from Elisabeth, the main roles will be portrayed by Kerry Washington, Kate Mara, Joel Kinnaman, and Corey Stoll.
While speaking in an interview on March 14, 2026 (ET), Elisabeth opened up on what she expects the audience to take from the series. Moss said that people will understand the fact that secrets can break friendships and the consequences can hurt anyone, including that they can bring physical harm. Moss continued by saying:
“If there’s a like a lesson or a thing that I hope people take from it, it those secrets and lack of communication and being so worried about somebody not liking you or somebody being mad at you, or somebody judging you, it’s those things that can really break up friendships.”
