Spice Girl Geri Halliwell consoles Christian Horner in new Netflix series after he leaves Red Bull F1 team

Viewers watching Netflix’s Drive to Survive can see the emotional moment former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner broke the news of his sacking to his Spice Girl wife Geri Halliwell. The long-serving team boss was released midway through the 2025 Formula One season, one year on from his sex texting scandal which set the racing world alight.

In the scenes of the latest series, which was released this week, it also emerges that Geri predicted her husband’s demise and he complains of not getting to say a “proper goodbye” to colleagues. Horner, 52, left the team in July last year after receiving a reported £80million package.

Season Eight of Drive To Survive, released on Friday, contains eight episodes including one called ‘A Bull With No Horns’ alluding to the exit of Horner.

It shows him sitting down at home with Geri who hands him a coffee as he says it is “all done and dusted” before adding “onward and upwards”. Looking teary, Geri asks him how he feels and he replies: “Um… I never imagined to be in this position. Of course your immediate reaction when you get delivered a s*** sandwich like that is, like, f*** them. I’ve had something taken away from me that wasn’t my choice, that was very precious to me.

“But you thought it was going to happen. We came back from that Austria race and I remember you sat on the bed one night and went ‘Something really bad’s gonna happen’.”

Horner also gives an interview to camera about what has happened. He adds: “I feel a real sense of loss and hurt. It was all rather sudden. I didn’t really get a proper chance to say goodbye.”

Horner had been in charge of the Formula 1 team since they began in 2005, leading them to eight drivers’ championship and six constructors’ championship titles. His dismissal followed months of declining form for the F1 team and internal disputes at the highest level.

It also came 17 months after Horner was accused of sexual harassment and coercive, controlling behaviour by a female employee. Horner was twice cleared of the claims, firstly after an internal investigation conducted by a lawyer, then by another lawyer who dismissed the complainant’s appeal. Around this time suggestive WhatsApp messages allegedly sent by Horner were also leaked, creating significant turmoil. Horner married singer Geri Halliwell in Bedfordshire in 2015.
