Eric Dane Said He Never Fell In Love With Anybody Other Than Rebecca, They Met When She Was Engaged

Eric Dane passed away at the age of 53, nearly 10 months after he revealed being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The actor’s family confirmed the same through a statement, wherein it was revealed that Eric passed away after his long battle with ALS. Eric was a famous actor, whose initial plan was never to act, but he fell in love with acting after he had done an initial project, and since then, there was no looking back.

Eric was married to Rebecca Gayheart. The couple got married in 2004, and in 2018, the actress filed for a divorce, which she dismissed in 2025. Eric Dane reveals he never loved anyone as deeply as Rebecca Gayheart

In his last interview with Netflix’s Famous Last Words, Eric Dane revealed that he still loves Rebecca and she does too, but maybe they don’t want to live together. The actor said that there’s a lot of love in between them. He stated that he had never loved anybody as deeply as Rebecca. He shared that Rebecca is the mother of his children, and it was so organic and fortuitous. Eric Dane could be quoted as saying:

“We still love each other deeply, I just think we don’t want to live with each other. But there’s a lot of love there. I will have never, by the time anybody sees this, have fallen in love with another woman as deeply as I fell in love with Rebecca. She’s the mother of my children, and the whole way that thing came about was so organic and fortuitous. I met Rebecca, and I turned to her friend and I said ‘I’m going to marry that girl.'”

In the same interview, Eric Dane revealed that when he first met Rebecca Gayheart, he turned to her friend and expressed his wish to marry her. Eric told Rebecca’s friend that he would marry Rebecca, who was already engaged back then.

Eric was asked how serious he was about marrying Rebecca. To this, he added that he had no idea about how serious he was at that moment, but Rebecca’s friend told him that the actress would never break up with her fiancé, since they had been together since they were 15. Well, four years later, Eric married Rebecca, and speaking about the same, Eric said that he had always known that he was supposed to marry the girl with whom he was meant to be together. Eric shared:

“I have no idea. I have no idea how serious I was in that moment, but I said that. And her friend said ‘No way. She’s never breaking up with her fiancé. They’re getting married, they’ve been together since they were 15.’ You know, four years later, I married her. I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of where it’s supposed to happen.'”

Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart met in 2004 on the set of Grey’s Anatomy, and their slow-burning romance turned into a friendship. Reportedly, Eric asked Rebecca if she would want to go out. She said ‘yes’ to the date, and 10 months later, they were married. The couple shared two daughters, Billie Beatrice Dane. Billie was born in 2010, and she was named after Eric’s father.

Eric lost his father when he was 7 years old. Eric’s father was a Navy man who ended up in interior design. Eric and Rebecca decided to stay apart in 2018, and the actress filed for a divorce. In 2025, she dismissed the same. During the time that they were separated, the couple used to co-parent their daughters. Eric wanted his last interview to give his daughter an experience of him. Talking about the same, Brad Falchuk, who interviewed Eric, said in a recent interview with PEOPLE:

“Eric really wanted to talk about his daughters, and he really wanted to make sure that they had an experience of him from watching this that they might not have been able to get in other opportunities.”
