Former Ohio State Buckeyes defensive back Marcus Williamson is potentially staring down decades behind bars after he pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to bank robberies.
Williamson allegedly stole an estimated $22,000 from different banks after slipping notes to tellers demanding money in $20, $50 and $100 denominations, per the Columbus Dispatch.
He was arrested on April 24, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio after exiting First Merchants Bank. Police reportedly watched him get into a Jeep Compass. When he was later stopped, they said he had money from the bank in his possession.
Authorites were already investigating Williamson at the time of his arrest.
On Monday, he pleaded guilty to nine counts of bank robbery, with five second-degree felonies and four third-degree felonies.
Williamson is scheduled for sentencing on June 25, and faces up to 40 years in prison, though probation is a possibility.
He is currently in custody at the Franklin County Jail in Columbus.
Williamson played for the Buckeyes from 2017-2021 and won four Big Ten titles, first under coach Urban Meyer, then under Ryan Day from 2018-21.
Williamson was a four-star recruit coming out of IMG Academy, but was largely seen as a disappointment for the Buckeyes, as he was never a consistent starter.
In 46 games played, Williamson recorded 68 combined tackles with five passes defended and two forced fumbles.
