From the romantic vibes in hit songs like Bol Do Na Zara and Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon to the global beats of his independent English tracks, Armaan Malik has always been an artist who refuses to stay in one lane. In an exclusive conversation with Filmfare, the singer opened up about his recent chartbuster Ram Ji Aake Bhala Karenge from the horror-comedy Bhoot Bangla, his 18-year journey in the industry, and why 2026 feels like a spiritual rebirth.

The Voice Actor for Akshay Kumar

Collaborating with the legendary trio of Akshay Kumar, director Priyadarshan, and composer Pritam for Bhoot Bangla was a full-circle moment for Armaan. Having grown up on the brand of movies like Hera Pheri and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, he felt a unique responsibility while recording the high-energy track.

He said, “I don’t call this playback singing, I call it voice acting. When you’re singing for an actor like Akshay sir, who is known for his over-the-top, crazy moves, you have to get out of your comfort zone. It’s about making the character come to life so it feels like the person on screen is actually singing.”

Armaan admits he was initially unaware that the song served as a nod to Satyajit Ray’s classic Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne until after the release. He said, “Pritam Da channelled that nostalgia. All of us 90s kids were craving that energy we saw in films like Awara Paagal Deewana or Hulchul.”

Reinventing the Veteran

With 18 years in the industry and being called a veteran—a title Armaan laughed off while acknowledging his growth. From a child singer in Taare Zameen Par (Bum Bum Bole) to a global pop icon, his mission has remained the same and that is carving an identity on his own terms.

He explained, “I’ve always done the opposite of what people expect from someone from a musical family. I started on a reality show, and in 2020, I broke out internationally with English music. I’ve always chased ‘The Road Not Taken’ by Robert Frost. That poem stayed with me.”

2026: The Leap of Faith

Armaan was candid about the internal shifts he has experienced recently. He described 2025 as a difficult year of shedding skin, a spiritual process of letting go of old habits and rigid thoughts.

He shared, “In 2025, I was very hesitant about taking on projects. 2026 feels lighter, more flow-state. A prime example of this new spontaneity was recording Ram Ji Aake Bhala Karenge. I was in Hyderabad, got a studio randomly at 4 a.m., and sent the files to Pritam Da. Three days later, the song was out and topping charts. The theme for me this year is simply taking a leap of faith.”

Bridging the North-South Divide

As a massive star in the South Indian film industries, Armaan shared how he takes immense pride in his Indian singer identity. He said that tracks like Butta Bomma have transcended language barriers, with fans in Delhi requesting the Telugu hit during his live shows.

He said, “I love going to a city and singing in their mother tongue. Whether it’s Telugu, Kannada, or Malayalam, it makes the audience feel one with the music. I’m not limited to one language, and that’s why my fan base is spread across the entire country.”

What’s Next?

As for the rest of 2026, Armaan cheekily mentioned that he is playing the role of Santa for his fans. While he remains secretive about specific global collaborations, he promises a mix of big Bollywood tracks and fresh independent music. He concluded saying, “The goal is to sing until my last breath. I want to be a career artist, much like the legends we’ve grown up with.”
