The F1 movie has reached the top of the Apple TV streaming charts after its release on the platform.

The Brad Pitt-led film hit Apple TV on Friday 12 December, allowing subscription holders to watch the movie for free.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, F1 follows nomadic driver Sonny Hayes (Pitt) as he returns to Formula 1 to join the struggling APXGP, run by his former team-mate Rubén Cervantes, portrayed by Javier Bardem.

Hayes joins the team alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, for the final nine races of the season as they work to win a race in order to save the team from being sold.

The film was shot during F1 weekends during the 2023 and 2024 seasons and features the drivers from the grid. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton also served as an executive producer.

After its release in theatres in June 2025, the film reached $631.5million at the global box office and gained a 97% rating from audiences and 82% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

The idea of a sequel has also been floated, with talks already underway.

“We met with Lewis Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, and started talking about some ideas,” Bruckheimer told Forbes in November 2025.

“We’re in London right now, and we’ve screened the movie twice every night for the last three nights. We have the audience in there, and the first question I ask them is, ‘How many of you have not seen this movie?’ 80% of the hands go up, and it’s unbelievable. The other 20% have seen it several times. People that haven’t seen it say, ‘Oh, it’s not my kind of movie.’ It is your kind of movie. It’s emotional, fun, and it’s a great night out at the theatre.”
