A father and son have been identified as suspects behind a deadly attack on members of the Jewish community at Australia’s Bondi Beach, police said.

On Sunday, the two assailants opened fire on people gathered in the Sydney suburb to mark the first day of Hanukkah, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens. The Queensland Police Service said the attack was being treated as an act of terrorism.

“The offenders are a 50-year-old male and a 24-year-old male who are father and son,” New South Wales Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon told reporters, without identifying the men by name.

Lanyon said the 50-year-old suspect was killed at the scene, while his accomplice is in “critical but stable condition” and remains in hospital. He added that the deceased suspect legally owned six firearms.
