Fatima Bosch Vs Nawat, Miss Universe Director Tearfully Apologizes, Had Called Miss Mexico ‘Dumb’

Miss Universe 2025 will be held on November 21, 2025, in Thailand. Hence, the beauty queens from all around have already gathered in the host country to prepare for the contest. However, the start of the pageant has been quite controversial after Thai pageant director Nawat Itsaragrisil was involved in a spat with Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch. After massive backlash, Nawat has apologised for some of his words. 

Nawat Itsaragrisil apologised, but not to Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch

While questioning Miss Mexico Fatima Bosch at the sash ceremony on why she did not join a social media shoot, Nawat called her ‘dumb’. He flung even more insults and threatened the other beauty queens. The whole ordeal was live-streamed by the Miss Universe Thailand organisation. As a result, Nawat’s tirade and disrespect against Fatima and the other beauty queens became viral. A massive backlash followed, with celebrities also condemning the spat.

Nawat Itsaragrisil initially took to his TikTok account to issue an apology. However, as the backlash mounted, he called a press conference to apologize. He was seen crying uncontrollably, but his tears have not softened the public’s blow on him. They have also noticed that despite humiliating Fatima in front of everyone, he did not personally apologise to her. Instead made excuses for his behaviour. The pageant director shared that he was human and under a lot of pressure, which made him act that way. Nawat said:

“I want to take this opportunity to say something about something that’s happened. Because I am a human. I think you must understand the pressure is a lot, I am a human sometimes. I cannot control. By the way, I have not intend to hurt anyone. I have to apologize for the delegates.”

Miss Universe 2025: What exactly happened between Fatima Bosch vs Nawat Itsaragrisil? 

At the sash ceremony, Nawat, who was handling the pageant for the Miss Universe organisation, asked some of the participants why they did not attend a social media shoot. Then he singled out Miss Mexico Fatima and asked her to explain her absence from the shoot. Nawat accused her of not showing respect and asked her:

“Mexico, where are you? I heard you’re not going to support everything about Thailand, is that true?”

While Fatima tried to explain herself, Nawat called her a ‘dumb’. This sparked anger among the other beauty queens. He then called security on Fatima Bosch after she stood her ground. Miss Mexico walked out of the room to show her defiance. Along with her many other beauty queens representing their respective countries walked out too. The current Miss Universe, Victoria Kjær Theilvig, also walked out to show her support. Nawat did not simmer down then either. In a threatening tone, he told the models to sit down if they wanted to contest. However, most of them ended up leaving with Fatima. Miss Mexico shared on TikTok:

“We’re in the 21st century, and I’m not a doll to be made up, styled, and have my clothes changed. I came here to be a voice for all the women and all the girls who fight for causes and to tell my country that I’m completely committed to that. I will not allow the values of respect and dignity of women to be violated.”
