A huge firework display in the stands caused Ajax’s league game against Groningen to be called off after just five minutes.
Fans behind the goal at the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam ignited a huge wall of fireworks and threw some onto the pitch, leading referee Bas Nijhuis to take the players off.
After a delay the players returned but more fireworks were thrown and the match was abandoned.
The match will now be played on Tuesday afternoon.
In a post on X, Ajax wrote: “Ajax finds it downright scandalous what happened in the stadium tonight.
“We offer our apologies to anyone who has been harmed by this in any way whatsoever.
“The safety of spectators and players has been put in danger. That is unacceptable.”
The postponement leaves Ajax and Groningen in sixth and eighth place respectively, with the two sides level on 20 points after 13 matches.
