First Snow Caps Mount Fuji, 15 Days Earlier Than Last Year

YAMANASHI, Oct 23 (News On Japan) –
The Kofu Local Meteorological Observatory announced on October 23rd that the season’s first snow had been observed on Mount Fuji, which stands 3,776 meters tall. Around 6 a.m., an official visually confirmed that snow had clearly accumulated near the summit.

This year’s first snow came 21 days later than average but 15 days earlier than last year, which marked the latest first snowfall since records began in 1894. At the foot of the mountain, the city of Fujiyoshida in Yamanashi Prefecture also declared its own “first snow makeup” of Mount Fuji.
