Blake Garrett was a former child actor who rose to fame with his performance in How to Eat Fried Worms. The child actor knew that he was passionate about the performing arts from a young age. However, now, the sudden news of his death has left everyone in shock. 

Former child actor, Blake Garrett, passed away at the age of 33

Blake Garrett was best known for his role as ‘Pulg’ in the comedy film, How to Eat Fried Worms. He appeared in several other productions, both cinematic and theatrical, throughout his career. However, it was on February 9, 2026 (ET), when the actor’s mother, Carol Garrett, confirmed in a statement to TMZ that the former actor had passed away. She shared that Blake died on February 8, 2026, at the age of 33.

What caused Blaje Garett’s sudden death?

In the same statement to TMZ, Blake Garett’s mother, Carol Garett, said they don’t know what caused Blake’s death. She further shared that the family is still awaiting the autopsy results from the medical examiner. However, she admitted that Blake was allegedly self-medicating to treat his shingles, which would have led to his passing. In a conversation with the news outlet, Carol shared that Blake went to the emergency room last week in Oklahoma after experiencing intense pain.

She revealed that he was later diagnosed with shingles. Carol Garett further shared that Blake may have self-medicated to cope with the pain from the viral infection. She further admitted that she believes that Blake’s death could have been a tragic accident caused by self-treatment. Carol also spoke with E! News and shared that Blake Garett had been living a really good life in Tulsa for the past three years and had truly turned things around after becoming sober.

Blake Garett was born on September 14, 1992, in Austin, Texas. The young actor knew that he was extremely passionate about performing arts from a very young age. Blake began working on many local productions and fell in love with the craft at the tender age of 8. The young actor has a busy and impressive career as a child actor. He rose to fame for How to Eat Fried Worms, in which he played ‘Plug’, the character from the 1974 children’s book by Thomas Rockwell. The movie followed the story of a new kid in school, ‘Billy’ (Luke Benward), who has a run-in with a bully, ‘Joe’ (Adam Hicks), and makes a bet to eat 10 worms.

He also landed several impressive roles in local productions, including Aladdin and His Magic Lamp and Peanuts: A Charlie Brown Tribute. Blake further worked on several projects, including The Wizard of Oz, Annie, and Grease. However, it was Barney’s Colourful World that made him a global sensation. Just at the age of 10, Blake was already headlining an International tour for the show. And what he remembered most about his international travels was that children wanted to touch his hair, which was nearly white. In a conversation with The Oklahoma, Blake once stated:

“Some of them had never seen hair my color.”
