Two days after a young techie couple died by suicide in Bengaluru, emerging details point to stress and financial difficulties as possible factors behind the incident.
Banu Chandra Reddy, 32, a software engineer from Telangana, died by suicide by hanging in his apartment on Monday. Shortly afterwards, his wife, Bibi Shaziya Siraj, a tech professional working at IBM, jumped from the 17th floor of their residential building.
Struggle With Employment
Investigations indicate that Reddy had been facing difficulty securing stable employment in Bengaluru for nearly a year after losing his job in the United States.
Sources said his layoff was linked to job cuts influenced by a shift towards AI-driven roles, leaving him without a steady income. The prolonged period of unemployment is believed to have led to mounting financial stress.
Family Strain And Isolation
Reddy was also dealing with strained family relations. His interfaith marriage with Shaziya reportedly did not have the support of his family.
Sources said his father, who has strong political connections in Telangana, was opposed to the relationship, leading to a lack of emotional and financial support.
With limited backing, the couple was navigating personal and financial challenges largely on their own in Bengaluru.
Note Recovered
Police have recovered a note in which Reddy cited some of these reasons. He took responsibility for his actions and requested that his wife not be blamed.
Shaziya, who had returned to Bengaluru shortly before the incident, died by suicide after discovering her husband’s body.
Investigation Underway
Further investigation into the case is underway.
