Former Strictly star Gemma Atkinson has confessed that her new wellness project means she feels a “responsibility” as she weighed in on a common cosmetic procedure

Gemma Atkinson has said that her new project means she feels a “responsibility” to be “pro-ageing” as she opened up about a common cosmetic treatment. An influencer who famously played Lisa Hunter on Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks, Gemma joined the line-up of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 alongside Slovenian dancer Aljaž Škorjanec at the age of 32.

Given her background as a glamour model and inclusion in FHM’s list of 100 Sexiest Women, it wouldn’t be surprising that Gemma may feel compelled to uphold a certain image in the spotlight.

Now 41, Gemma, who shares two children, Mia and Thiago, with her partner, dancer Gorka Marquez, has reportedly even considered using botulinum toxin injections.

Indeed, The Mail’s Richard Eden claims that she “always thought she’d start using” them when she turned 40, but it seems that her new venture prevents her from taking the plunge.

It’s important to clarify that botulinum toxin injection is the medical term for this type of procedure, while Botox refers to a specific brand, though multiple brands offer the treatments.

Gemma said: “I feel like I can’t be the face of my new wellness and skincare brand Gem & Tonic while filling myself with injectables. I feel a responsibility now to be pro-ageing, and to continue with my healthy lifestyle.”

It isn’t the first time that she’s spoken about such treatments recently, as she previously replied to a claim that she had undergone these types of procedures and that they were affecting her “facial expressions.”

Gemma has also responded to this type of speculation before, having previously been asked if she used injectables after she received praise for her youthful appearance after the birth of Thiago in 2023.

She said: “Thank you. I’m asked this a lot.” Gemma added: “I haven’t had any work on my face. I’ve thought about it but I’m scared it’ll go wrong and I’ll look like a cat or something.

“I’m 39 in Nov and me and my mates have said we’re going to all get Botox together at 40 but we’re all scared to go first! I’ll probably need it before 40 as well now with sleepless nights again [crying laughing emoji].”

In February, Gemma shared a screenshot of a message she’d received. It read: “Gemma, sorry if I’m wrong, but it just looks like maybe botox/fillers are changing the way your fae moves… Changing your facial expressions… I know, I need to mind my own business, but I get so upset that more and more women feel pressure to look younger than they are…”

It ended: “Anyway, I’ll shut up now as I’ve probably said far too much as it is!”

Gemma clarified: “I’ve never had any botox or fillers… That’s just my natural face [face planting and crying laughing emojis]. Apologies if it moves in a funny way. Ps. And yes, absolutely far too much was said.”
