It was previously reported that the chef had made a dig at Adam’s estranged mum Caroline in his father-of-the-bride speech, saying his wife Tana would be “a good mum to them both”
Gordon Ramsay has shared the outrageous joke he told at daughter Holly’s wedding to swimmer Adam Peaty. It was previously reported that the chef had made a dig at Adam’s estranged mum Caroline in his father-of-the-bride speech, saying his wife Tana would be “a good mum to them both”.
But Gordon has broken his silence, denying he said anything “inappropriate”. In fact, the star says he was both warm and witty – poking fun at the moment he found out Holly was dating an Olympic swimmer, adding that he wrote all the jokes himself. Gordon and Tana’s daughter wed Adam during a lavish ceremony at Bath Abbey on December 27.

He told Mail Online one of the jokes in his speech, saying: “I was nervous, hearing the words no father would ever want to hear: ‘Your daughter’s gone on a date with the world’s best breast-stroker.’ We knew something big was going on when she came home and all we could smell was chlorine.”
Gordon said he and wife Tana have “done nothing wrong” amid Adam’s family fall out, explaining that they’d treated his family “like royalty”. The TV star chef and his family were elated as his daughter Holly tied the knot with Adam – but the special day was tainted with sadness as Adam’s family were uninvited to the nuptials in the lead-up and a huge family fallout spilled into the public eye.
Gordon, 59, and wife Tana, 51, have remained tight-lipped on the family fallout in the midst of all the media attention – but that changed today. Meanwhile, Adam’s parents – who were uninvited from Adam’s nuptials and have spoken to the press over the fallout – claimed they were deliberately banned from the big day.
During an interview, Adam’s mum Caroline claimed her son was “in Gordon’s clutches” and felt the family were “pulling him away” and claimed the Ramsays were “insular”. But, now Gordon has responded, sharing his upset over the claims in an interview. He said it was “upsetting” and “all self-inflicted from their side”. Gordon explained he and Tana had sent “a chauffeur-driven car” to take them to Adam and Holly’s engagement party.
Asked if the rift could ever be resolved, Gordon said he would consider driving up to Nottingham where the Peatys live with Tana to ‘draw a line in the sand.’
Rumours of a feud between Holly, Adam and his family first began when it was revealed that Caroline didn’t attend her future daughter-in-law’s hen do. Caroline’s sister and Adam’s aunt angrily hit out at Holly as she said: “You invited your mum (quite rightly) and even your mum’s assistant, your sisters, your friends, my niece, but not my sister, your future mother-in-law.” It was later claimed that Adam’s brother James was arrested for allegedly sending Adam abusive messages while Adam’s dad was not invited to his stag.
Weeks later, Adam and Holly tied the knot without Adam’s family present – with the exception of his sister Bethany, who acted as Holly’s bridesmaid alongside Holly’s sisters. Caroline hit out at the time but the Ramsays had remained silent until today.
In an emotional video, Gordon was seen breaking down in tears as soon as he caught a glimpse of his daughter in her bridal gown. The moment went viral on social media, with fans praising the sweet moment between the father and daughter.
Since their big day, Adam and Holly have looked to put the family fallout behind them and headed off on a lavish honeymoon in Mauritius. Gordon has since revealed that he and Tana were invited to tag along on the couple’s first trip as newlyweds. He revealed: “Adam and Holly asked Tana and me to come on the honeymoon with them. I said, ‘Look, we love you. We’d never gatecrash your honeymoon. We’ll see you after’.”
