They were among seven people killed when Greg Biffle’s private jet crashed while attempting to land in North Carolina. Greg’s death was first announced by his friend and motorsports YouTuber, Garrett Mitchell and subsequently confirmed by Richard Hudson on X (formerly Twitter). The surviving families of the deceased individuals have shared their grief through official statements.

Retired NASCAR driver, Greg Biffle and his entire family were tragically killed in a plane crash at the Statesville Regional Airport in North Carolina. The plane, a Cessna C550 business jet owned by Greg Biffle, crashed around 10:20 a.m. while attempting to land shortly after taking off for a planned trip to Florida. The officials initially did not reveal the identities of the deceased, and it was Garrett Mitchell who broke the news of Greg, his wife Cristina Biffle, their son, Ryder, and their daughter, Emma’s passing. Garrett revealed that Greg Biffle and his family were travelling to Florida to visit him. The statement, posted on Facebook, read:
“Unfortunately, I can confirm Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, daughter Emma, and son Ryder were on that plane.”

After Garrett Mitchell’s confirmation, the news was then widely reported by various media outlets and the NASCAR community. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are investigating the cause of the crash. Adverse weather conditions, including heavy drizzle and low visibility, were reported at the time of the mishap and are being considered potential factors. Notably, the plane attempted to return to the airport shortly after takeoff due to foggy conditions. It is not yet known who was flying the aircraft at that time.

According to a press release from NASCAR, three other people were killed in the plane crash that also claimed the lives of Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, and their kids. They were Dennis Dutton, his son Jack Dutton, and Craig Wadsworth. The father-and-son duo, Dennis Dutton and Jack Dutton, were described as “deeply loved” by the families in a joint statement. They mourned Dennis and Jack’s deaths and said that “their loss is felt by all who knew them.” Dennis Dutton was a highly experienced pilot who served as an International A-330 Captain for Delta Airlines and was a retired pilot officer with the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Dennis’ son, Jack Dutton, was a flight student at Auburn University. He recently earned his Instrument Rated Private Pilot certification. Besides Dennis and Jack, popular NASCAR figure, Craig Wadsworth also became a victim of the deadly jet crash. Craig was a well-known member of the NASCAR community. He was famously recognised as a motorhome driver for prominent NASCAR figures, including Kenny Wallace, for six years.

The families of the plane crash victims issued an emotional joint statement
The victims’ families issued a joint statement, which expressed that the tragedy left them “heartbroken beyond words” and that each of the deceased “meant everything” to them. The statement referred to Greg and Cristina Biffle as “devoted parents and active philanthropists” and remembered their children as wonderful human beings. Sharing that they were “devastated by the loss of our loved ones” and that the “tragedy has left all of our families heartbroken beyond words”, the post read:
“Greg and Cristina were devoted parents and active philanthropists whose lives were centered around their young son Ryder and Greg’s daughter Emma (mother – Nicole Lunders). Emma was a wonderful human being with a kind soul who was loved by many people. Ryder was an active, curious and infinitely joyful child.”

Besides Greg and his family, the post also honoured the other three victims. The bereaved families sought privacy, compassion, and understanding as they were in the period of mourning and yet to completely “process this unimaginable loss.” They expressed gratitude for the kindness and support extended to their families during this “incredibly difficult time.” Regarding the deceased, Craig Wadsworth, Dennis Dutton, and his son, Jack Dutton, the post included:
“Dennis Dutton and his son Jack were deeply loved as well, and their loss is felt by all who knew them. Craig Wadsworth was beloved by many in the NASCAR community and will be missed by those who knew him. Each of them meant everything to us, and their absence leaves an immeasurable void in our lives.”
