BAFTA nominated Hamnet actress Jessie Buckley has been considered one of the favourites to become the next Bond girl ever since her success at the Golden Globes
Oscar and BAFTA nominee Jessie Buckley has revealed she would join Denis Villeneuve’s James Bond film – but only under specific circumstances. During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the 36-year-old stated she would accept the part if it was filmed in Ireland and one actor in particular was playing Bond.
The actress suggested she would be particularly keen to portray a Bond girl if the production were filmed in Ireland, the homeland she shares with Paul, who she said she would like to see play Bond.
Discussing the prospect of featuring in a Denis Villeneuve Bond picture alongside Paul, she remarked: “Yes please. As long as I can be the Bond girl and we can set it in Ireland.”
The Irish star has emerged as a leading contender for the next Bond girl following her triumph at the Golden Globes, where she secured the best actress accolade.
In a separate conversation with Deadline, Jessie opened up about her perspective on romance, confessing: “I think love is terrifying. I have been scared of love for a lot of my life.”
She revealed it took a “long while” for her to understand what love “even meant for me”. She continued: “Sometimes love at first sight, it’s too much of a project idea…you can’t just make a meal. You have to cook it.”
Beyond Hamnet, Jessie Buckley appears opposite Christian Bale in The Bride, whilst Paul Mescal has been spotted on set for one of four forthcoming Beatles biopics. Jessie has recently secured nominations for best actress at both the Academy Awards and this year’s BAFTA Film Awards, which takes place this weekend.
Her eagerness to join the 007 franchise emerges as speculation intensifies around various leading men vying to succeed Daniel Craig, whose Bond met his demise in No Time To Die.
Since the latest James Bond instalment premiered in 2021, persistent whispers have suggested that Paul Mescal, Jacob Elordi, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be front-runners to portray the iconic secret agent.
The latest contender to surface is British actor Callum Turner, who faced questions about the prospect whilst promoting his new film Rosebush Pruning.
The Express consulted a body language expert who identified three compelling signs during Callum’s interview.
The expert observed: “Callum is swinging his chair from side to side – that’s a big indicator that he’s being put under the spotlight and he’s feeling under pressure.
“He’s trying to keep cool and calm. He looks like he’s excited to say something, but he can’t. Secondly, he’s pressing his lips together and the corners of his mouth goes inward. It’s like stopping himself saying something. The third indicator is his jaw tightening. You can see that his jaw bone goes stiff. That’s again trying to suppress an emotion.”
