Harrison Ford’s love life has been just as eventful as some of the box office movies but he thanked his ‘extraordinary’ wife Calista Flockhart as he collected a lifetime achievement award
Veteran actor Harrison Ford stepped out with Calista Flockhart as the couple made a rare appearance together on a special night. He paid tribute to his “extraordinary, beautiful wife” as he was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Actor Awards last night, crediting her as he took to the stage in LA. The 83-year-old movie icon, renowned for his roles in Star Wars and Indiana Jones, also hailed George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Fred Roos, and Pat McQueeney for their support early in his career.
Harrison thanked Ally McBeal actress Calista and his family for giving him the “love and courage to do all of it”. After being presented with the award by Woody Harrelson, he went on: “I feel incredibly grateful for this kind attention, but to be clear, I also am quite humbled.
“I’m in a room of actors, many of whom are here because they’ve been nominated to receive a prize for their amazing work, while I’m here to receive a prize for being alive.” He continued: “I’d say it’s a little weird to be getting a Lifetime Achievement Award at the half-point of my career.

“It’s a little early, isn’t it? I’m still a working actor. I was not an overnight success. I struggled for about 15 years going from acting job to carpentry and back to acting, until I finally got a part in a wildly successful film. None of this happened on my own. Thank you, George Lucas. Thank you, Steven Spielberg.”
It is reported that the movies Harrison has starred in have grossed $5.4 billion in North America and more than $9.3 billion worldwide. He went on to say: “There were two other people who had a hand in guiding me through hard times. Fred Roos, casting director and producer for Francis Ford Coppola. And my manager for 30 years, Pat McQueeney.
“They were both incredibly persistent, and they supported me at a time when I really needed it. I would not be here without them. They’re no longer with us, but I feel it’s important that I thank them now. I feel them here tonight. They would be happy for me.”
Harrison met Calista in 2002 at the Golden Globe Awards, with them then getting married eight years later in an intimate ceremony in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They are the parents of Liam, who was born 2001, the son she adopted before meeting the Star Wars actor.
Harrison’s personal life is kept on the down-low, with his love life very low-key. But with three marriages and a steamy fling, the Hollywood icon has had his fair share of blockbuster romances happen away from the silver screen.
Harrison’s first wife was Mary Marquardt, with the pair being childhood sweethearts at high school before tying the knot. The pair got hitched on June 18, 1964, with them welcoming two children together. Harrison and Mary welcomed two sons, Ben and Willard, with the couple then later becoming grandparents to four of their children’s offspring.
Following Harrison shooting to fame in the Star Wars franchise, the couple sadly divorced in 1979. In the hit movie franchise, Star Wars, Harrison portrays the role of Han Solo – a character who is in love with Princess Leia.
Played by Carrie Fisher, Princess Leia is Han Solo’s on-screen love interest – with that soon playing out in real life for the stars behind the characters.
Harrison and Carrie – who was 19 at the time – had a three month affair while filming the first movie, which was revealed in Carrie’s memoir, The Princess Diarist. Speaking about her romance with Harrison she told of how she was “shocked” that he fancied her, with her revealing that they stayed together “for the remainder of the film”.
“It was never going to be more than that. I didn’t think it was going to be even that,” she added in her chat with The Guardian. Harrison then met Melissa Mathison while he was still married to his high school sweetheart Mary. Meeting on the set of Apocalypse Now in 1976, Melissa worked as a production assistant while Harrison played the role of Colonel Lucas.
After Harrison had divorced from Mary in 1979 he was busy with work before starting to date again, with him and Melissa starting their relationship in 1982. Getting married the following year, the couple were hitched for two decades and welcomed two children during their union – a son Malcolm, and a daughter Georgia.
The couple separated in 2000 and divorced in 2004, with a three-year-long battle to reach a settlement. According to Forbes, their settlement ultimately landed at $85million (£71million) in 2004. Sadly Melissa died in 2015 aged 65, from neuroendocrine cancer.
