According to law enforcement, these actions are standard procedures in a complex kidnapping case. Furthermore, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos denied Independent journalist, Ashleigh Banfield’s claims that Tommaso was a ‘prime suspect’ in the case.

Alongside, a California man, Derrick Callella, was taken into custody for sending extortion texts to Annie and Tommaso demanding Bitcoin in exchange for information about Nancy. Whereas husband, Tommaso Cioni, is an Italian-born science educator and musician who has lived in Arizona since 2006. He teaches biology and plays in a local band called Early Black. The duo lived relatively private lives before this case brought them into the headlines. Moreover, the couple’s intensified scrutiny stems from their being among the last people to see Nancy the evening she returned home from dinner.

Nancy Guthrie’s search entered its second week until February 9, 2026. A couple of days ago, the family received ransom notes indirectly through media outlets, which demanded 6 million in Bitcoin. Among other notes, one of them contained sensitive, non-public details about Nancy’s home. Later, the Guthrie siblings, Savannah, Annie, and their brother Camron, released a video addressing the kidnappers and said, “We will pay.”

On the other hand, forensic evidence confirmed that the blood found on Nancy’s porch matches her DNA. Investigators have also noted that her doorbell camera was removed and her pacemaker app disconnected at 2:28 a.m., which may mark the time she was taken. Amid all this Nancy’s dependence on daily medication has made the situation more critical.
