Hyderabad: The state government has identified around 650 acres of land in survey numbers 28 and 62 at Bahadurguda, near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad, for the development of a dedicated bullet train hub to serve the proposed high-speed rail corridors linking Hyderabad with Bengaluru, Chennai and Mumbai, official sources said.
The sources said the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the Hyderabad-Chennai and Hyderabad-Bengaluru high-speed rail corridors are expected to be completed between September 2026 and March 2027. The DPR for the Hyderabad-Mumbai corridor, however, is likely to be taken up in the subsequent financial year 2027–28.
Officials indicated that land acquisition for the proposed hub is expected to be smooth, as the identified land parcel is already owned by the state government. Revenue authorities have initiated the process of demarcating boundaries in the identified survey numbers.
In February, the Railway Board entrusted the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited with the expedited implementation of seven new high-speed rail projects announced in the Union Budget 2026-27, including the three corridors connecting Hyderabad.
The Railway Board also directed the formation of dedicated core teams for each project, setting up project-specific headquarters, initiating pre-construction activities and beginning contract documentation processes.
The proposed Hyderabad-Chennai bullet train is expected to reduce travel time between two cities to just two hours and 55 minutes, while the Hyderabad-Bengaluru corridor could bring travel time to just one hour and 13 minutes.
The high-speed rail projects are expected to transform regional connectivity, reduce travel time drastically and accelerate industrial growht, economic activity across major urban corridors.
These corridors will be served by indigenous “B28” bullet trains being developed in India. The train sets are designed for a maximum speed of 280 kmph, with an operational speed of 250 kmph, and are targeted for testing in 2027.
The railway ministry has set a deadline of March 2027 for the rollout of the country’s first indigenously developed bullet train, being manufactured by BEML at its rail coach complex in Bengaluru. The B28 trainsets will feature fully air-conditioned chair car coaches equipped with modern amenities, including reclining and rotatable seats, facilities for passengers with reduced mobility, and onboard infotainment systems.
