After the passing of Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent leader of the July Uprising in Bangladesh, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus delivered a nationally televised message. He urged the citizens of Bangladesh to maintain peace and restraint, urging them to continue being patient and allow law enforcement agencies and relevant authorities to conduct an investigation into this incident. He also declared that Sharif Osman Hadi has been made a martyr and announced a national day of mourning on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Additionally, the Bangladeshi Government has agreed to provide for Usman’s wife and children.

“The government will assume responsibility for the welfare of Martyr Osman Hadi’s wife and his only child. In light of the untimely death of Martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, I am declaring a one-day national day of mourning on the coming Saturday. On this occasion, the national flag will fly at half-mast at all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, educational institutions, public and private buildings, and Bangladesh missions abroad on Saturday,”  Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus stated.

During his address, Yunus stated, “All perpetrators involved in this brutal assassination will be swiftly brought to justice, and the highest penalties will be imposed against them. No leniency will be shown in this matter,” he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.”I stand before you today with deeply heart-wrenching news. Sharif Osman Hadi, the fearless frontline warrior of the July Mass Uprising under treatment in Singapore and spokesperson for the Inkilab Mancha, is no longer with us.”

“Just moments ago, Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan informed me over the phone of this heartbreaking news. I pray that the Almighty Lord of the Worlds accepts this immortal soldier of the struggle against fascism and imperialism as a martyr. Let us all join in this prayer,” he added, as reported by news agency ANI.

Yunus referred to Hadi as a “frontline warrior against fascism,” likely a reference to Sheikh Hasina; he also indicated that those who seek to silence revolutionary voices will face the “most severe punishment.” Additionally, Yunus stated that Hadi intended to contest in the coming election and contribute to creating a “new Bangladesh.” With Hadi no longer alive, Yunus added, the nation now bears the collective obligation to pursue that aspiration.
