Star forward Hilary Knight is one goal away from making history.
Knight, competing in a record fifth Olympic Games, tied an all-time women’s U.S. Olympic record Saturday as the Americans destroyed yet another team.
The 36-year-old buried her 14th career Olympic goal – and second of the 2026 Milan Cortina Games – in the second period of Saturday’s 5-0 win against Finland.
Laila Edwards, the first black woman to play for the U.S. women’s hockey team, found Knight, who buried the puck inside the near post on a power play to give the Americans a 4-0 lead.
Knight, one of the most decorated hockey players in history, is now in a three-way tie with Katie King and Natalie Darwitz for most Olympic goals scored by an American, with plenty of time left in this year’s Winter Games for Knight to break the record.
Another player to keep an eye on is former Sirens forward Alex Carpenter, who netted her 10th Olympic goal Saturday. The now three-time Olympian is sixth in the all-time U.S. women’s Olympic goal leaderboard.
There was some concern entering Saturday whether Finland would be able to play after a norovirus breakout plagued several players in its locker room. Finland’s group play opener against Canada on Thursday was postponed a week.
Finland was no match for Team USA, which controlled the puck from the start. The floodgates opened in the second period when the Americans scored three of their five goals.
New York native Aerin Frankel stopped all 14 shots she faced to earn her first Olympic shutout.
Team USA has dominated opponents in each of its first two games of the Winter Games.
The Americans throttled Czechia 5-1 in its Olympic opener Thursday.
Throughout two games, the U.S. has outshot opponents 91-25 and outscored opponents 10-1.
The U.S., favorites to win gold this year, is now halfway through group play.
Team USA women’s hockey returns to action Monday against Switzerland. The Americans will wrap up group play with a highly anticipated matchup against Canada on Tuesday.
