According to a recent report from the Michigan Department of Corrections, Jarvis Butts was found unresponsive in his cell at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center in Jackson, Michigan. Initially, the staff found him without a pulse at around 6:45 a.m on March 26, 2026, and they tried various attempts to save his life. However, their efforts turned futile. Meanwhile, the officials have stated that Jarvis’s death is currently being treated as a suicide case. In their words:

“MDOC staff provided life-saving measures, which were unsuccessful. The Michigan State Police have been called to the facility to investigate; the death is currently being reported as a suicide”. 

Whereas another report states that the Michigan State Police has been tasked to conduct a complete investigation of the case. Notably, Jarvis Butts’ death comes just two weeks after his conviction in the high-profile Na’Ziyah Harris case grabbed eyeballs.

Jarvis Butts had recently admitted to the second-degree murder of a 13-year-old, Na’Ziyah Harris, who went missing in January 2026. Additionally, he got multiple added sentences of 10 to 15 years for sexually assaulting other minors between 4 and 13.
