Saif Ali Khan is one of the few actors in Bollywood who has managed to stay relevant for over three decades. While his professional journey continues to reach new heights, it seems his son, Taimur Ali Khan, is curious about when his father plans to hang up his boots. In a recent conversation, Saif opened up about a candid question Taimur asked him about his career longevity and how he sees the balance between work and family life.

During a chat with his sister, Soha Ali Khan, on her podcast, Saif shared a sweet and interesting interaction he had with his son. He revealed that Taimur recently asked him, “How much long are you planning to do this for?” Responding to his curiosity, Saif explained his perspective on his craft and his commitment to the profession. Saif said, “I said I don’t know, as long as I can! Forever, it is my job! But they are like, ‘No!’”

The conversation naturally moved toward the topic of work-life balance, especially for actors who often spend long stretches away from home. Soha pointed out that Taimur’s question makes sense given the time Saif spends away during film shoots. Saif agreed that while the nature of the job is demanding, it is possible to find a balance that works for the family.

Saif explained, “It has evolved in a way… But it is possible, and it helps if one is successful.” He mentioned that he has colleagues and friends in the industry who have mastered this balance. He added, “They start work at 7 am. The camera rolls at 9 am and they get a lot of work done in a day as well as see their children in the evening before they sleep. It is all a balance where one has a month or two of intensive work and then they are off for a while to maintain the comfort.”

Saif used a unique metaphor to describe how he sees his professional and personal life, comparing it to a mountain climbing expedition. He shared that he has always thought of this balance in terms of the experience of climbing a mountain. According to the actor, to climb a mountain, one needs a good base camp. However, he warned that if one is always climbing, there will be no base camp left. Therefore, maintaining that base camp which is the home and family life, is vital for the ability to keep climbing the mountain in his career. Saif was most recently seen in the Netflix thriller Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins and is currently preparing for Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, where he will reunite with Akshay Kumar.
