Ted Beckham is said to be trying to stop history repeating itself when it comes to David and Brooklyn, years after he endured his own falling out with his footballer son
Ted Beckham is said to be trying to stop history repeating itself when it comes to David and Brooklyn. The former footballer, 50, who has been married to Spice Girl Victoria since 1999, is currently at the centre of a family feud that saw his eldest son Brooklyn unleash a scathing rant against his parents following his own marriage to heiress Nicola Petlz.
David endured something of a strained relationship with his father Ted for a number of years in the early 2000s after he and David’s mum Sandra divorced, and now insiders have insisted that Ted is trying to do something to potentially ameliorate the situation.

A source told The Sun: “You could hardly blame Ted for looking at David and Brooklyn right now and seeing an absolute mirror image of his own mistakes. He knows the agony of being shut out of a son’s life. He remembers the years he lost with David, the birthdays missed, the Christmases spent in stony silence. Everyone can see that David and Brooklyn are throwing away the best years of their lives over stubborn pride.”
The comments come shortly after Ted reached out to Brooklyn on Instagram on his 27th birthday. He wrote on Instagram: “Happy birthday @brooklynpeltzbeckham – hope you have a fabulous day. With love from Grandad and Hilary xxx”
It’s recently been claimed that Brooklyn’s paternal aunts Joanne and Lynne could potentially solve it all, especially because Joanne, 43, has been a “real constant” for her nephew over the years.
Recently, it has been reported that Brooklyn still speaks to his grandparents, having telephoned both sets of them over the Christmas period, but will only make contact with his world-famous parents via their lawyers
A source said: “Brooklyn still feels close to them. Joanne especially has been a real constant for the Beckham boys and their sister Harper. There’s hope that she could be the key to mend the family rift. The last thing anyone wants is for Brooklyn to remain cut off from the family.
There’s also the thought that the fact that Nicola has kept Brooklyn’s aunts on her social media too could act as a form of hope for the situation.
Speaking to The Sun, the source added: “Nicola has kept Joanne and Lynne on her Instagram, too. It says a lot, given that they both got rid of Brooklyn’s parents and his brothers there. David and Victoria put a brave face on it all, but behind the scenes, it’s very upsetting for them.”
Brooklyn’s initial statement went viral as soon as he released it onto his Instagram page towards the end of last month. It read: “My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song.
“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone.
“I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life. We wanted to renew our vows so we could create new memories of our wedding day that bring us joy and happiness, not anxiety and embarrassment.”
“My wife has been consistently disrespected by my family, no matter how hard we’ve tried to come together as one. My mum has repeatedly invited women from my past into our lives in ways that were clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable.
“Despite this, we still travelled to London for my dad’s birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him. He refused all of our attempts, unless it was at his big birthday party with a hundred guests and cameras at every corner.
“When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face. Later, when my family travelled to LA, they refused to see me at all.
“My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family “love” is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.
“We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family.’ But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.
“The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”
