Hyderabad:The HYDRAA said it had secured nearly 34 acres of lake and government land collectively estimated to be worth around ₹4,000 crore after carrying out major anti‑encroachment operations at Kokapet and Madhapur. It said encroachments were removed from lake and government land, including portions of Kokapet’s Kotha Cheruvu, allegedly occupied by Gold Fish Villas, and land in Madhapur reportedly encroached by NVN Constructions.
HYDRAA said that in its operation at Kotha Cheruvu in Gandipet mandal, it cleared 22 acres within the lake’s 72‑acre full tank level (FTL) area. Officials said the venture had filled 1.09 acres with mud and soil, converting lakeland into basketball and volleyball courts, children’s play areas and open spaces. Structures and fencing were demolished, and fresh fencing erected to secure boundaries.
Authorities noted that real estate firms had fenced off portions of the lake and raised temporary barricades after constructing a bund through the water body to occupy upper portions of land.
In Madhapur, HYDRAA identified and protected 6.05 acres of Eidulakunta in Khanamet, along with 5.16 acres of adjoining government land. Officials said the lake, part of the Thammidikunta‑Eidulakunta‑Sunnam Cheruvu chain, had gradually disappeared after its drain line was diverted and boundaries altered.
Residents complained of excavation for cellar construction inside the lake area. Field verification by revenue, irrigation and municipal officials, supported by satellite imagery from the National Remote Sensing Centre, confirmed the existence of the lake and government land.
Officials alleged that NVN Constructions, which obtained permission for a 14‑storey building in nearby survey numbers in 2022, had extended construction into the lake and adjoining government land. HYDRAA fenced the entire 11.21‑acre stretch on Tuesday to prevent further encroachment.
Separately, road encroachments covering around 1,700 square yards were cleared at Khaitlapur in Kukatpally mandal following complaints from residents near Jewel Heights gated community.
