
Erling Haaland was in a modest mood ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Borussia Dortmund
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has laughed off suggestions he can be compared to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Norway international has scored 26 goals in 16 games this season, continuing his phenomenal record since joining City from Borussia Dortmund, who they meet in the Champions League tomorrow night.
Added to stints with Molde and RB Salzburg, the 25-year-old has scored 300 career goals in 370 appearances. The only two players over the past 20 years that can come close to those figures are Messi and Ronaldo.
Inevitably, comparisons are drawn but Haaland says they are wide of the mark.
“No, not at all! No-one can get close to them two, so no,” he said.
“I’m a Norwegian guy, and for me I should not think I am something just because I’m scoring goals. Simple as that. I’m just Erling and this is something that will never change…”
