Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says he is not thinking about the title race as there is “an eternity” left of the Premier League season.
Arsenal’s surprising draw with Wolves in midweek means that City can cut their lead to just two points if they beat Newcastle on Saturday.
Arsenal then face Tottenham in the north London derby on Sunday in what could be a pivotal weekend at the top of the table.
Or not, according to Guardiola.
He said: “I didn’t talk about the table, or our position or something like that. I could not care less. It’s 12 games [still to play].
“If you ask me this question with two or three games left, I will have your answer.
“It’s 12 games left, it’s an eternity.
“Seventy per cent of our players are new, so they don’t have the experience to live these kinds of situations.
“An experience is to win tomorrow. It is only one.”
City had a rare midweek break after not needing to play in the playoff round in the Champions League, while Arsenal were struggling at Molineux.
“We have a lot of months [ahead] with no midweek days off, playing every weekend and midweeks,” Guardiola said.
“I don’t have to run one metre so for me it is not a problem. After one or two days I sleep well, it is enough. For the players it is really good.
“They have one or two weeks to rest – this one and the next one – to forget and train good. They trained good the last two days.”
