New Delhi: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has addressed the issue regarding EVM hacking. Speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi, Abdullah said that he is not among those who believe that EVMs are hacked or that anything else is amiss. He said that he even disagrees with his father (Farooq Abdullah) on this issue, as his father believes there are problems with the machines, but he does not.

‘I don’t believe in EVM rigging’

Omar said, “I don’t believe that there is any rigging in the machine (EVM). This even causes problems for me at home because my father feels that there is rigging. If he is watching this, I apologize to him, but he belongs to that generation that believes whatever comes on their phone. But I don’t believe this.”

‘Elections can be manipulated’

He said, “Yes, elections can be manipulated. It can be done by tampering with the voter list or by changing the assembly constituencies. The delimitation that happened earlier in Jammu and Kashmir was a manipulation. You created new assembly constituencies, all of which were done to benefit only one party. If it is done correctly, then we are together, but if it is done with such wrong intentions, to benefit only one party, then it is not right.”

‘We will have to take Congress along’

Earlier, Omar Abdullah also expressed his concerns regarding the India Bloc. He said that we either have to stay together or we can contest elections state-wise, with different alliances in each state. He said that no matter how hard regional parties try for a central-level alliance, we will have to take Congress along. An alliance will be formed around Congress because, apart from the BJP, Congress is the only party that has influence throughout the country.

Praising the BJP’s election strategy, Omar said that their leaders fight every election with full force. They fight as if their life depends on it. After the Bihar elections, he moved on to the next states where elections were due, but we arrive there only two months before the elections. This, in turn, affects the election results.
