Mohit Suri has been delivered a string of hits such as Aashiqui 2, Malang, Ek Villain, and Awarapan in his career. After the massive success of his latest project, Saiyaara which starred newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, there were speculations about his next venture featuring none other than Ranbir Kapoor. However, in a conversation with Variety India, Mohit has provided an update about these casting reports. While he confirmed that he has met with Ranbir, he clarified that a professional collaboration is not officially on the cards just yet.
He said, “Ranbir Kapoor is not in my next film.” Despite no immediate project at hand, he expressed a strong desire to team up with Ranbir in the future. He added, “I genuinely want to work with him and I hope he feels the same way about me. I went to meet him to discuss and intend to work together. Meanwhile, it’s been in news that we are already doing a film together.
Mohit further shared that he and Ranbir share a long-standing mutual respect. He mentioned that Ranbir has been a keen observer of his filmography since the very beginning. Interestingly, Ranbir’s favourite work from Mohit’s filmography isn’t one of his blockbusters, but a film that didn’t find much success at the box office. Mohit revealed, “Ranbir and I know each other as he’s been following my career right from the beginning. He’s one of the few actors and such a great star who appreciates a film like Awaarapan even though it flopped, when it was released. He keeps telling me it’s one of my best films.
Mohit pointed out how rare it is for a star of Ranbir’s stature to focus on creative depth over commercial success. He said, “Normally, actors just talk to you about your highest-grossing film and say that’s your best film. While Ranbir is talking about a flop film of mine.” Mohit believes Ranbir possesses the specific qualities required for his brand of cinema, which often leans into emotional complexity. He explained, “I think he has the depth and layered nuances that my kind of films need. But no, there is no Ranbir Kapoor in my film, at the moment. I wish there was.
While fans may have to wait for a Mohit Suri-Ranbir Kapoor collaboration, Ranbir remains busy with projects including Ramayana, Love & War, and the much awaited sequel Animal Park.
