A woman who went to school with Jessie J has described exactly what she was like as a teenager. Jessie J, whose full name is Jessica Cornish, was born in Chadwell Heath and described herself as an “Essex girl”.

She became a huge star after releasing hits such as “Do It Like a Dude” and “Price Tag”. Earlier in her life, her talent was undeniable and she was performed in Andrew Lloyd Webber‘s West End production of Whistle Down the Wind at just 11-years-old.

At the age of 16 she began studying at the BRIT School and graduated alongside Adele and Leona Lewis. Her career went from strength to strength with her winning a number of awards including the 2011 Critics’ Choice Brit Award and the BBC’s Sound of 2011.

Away from her own music, she also appeared as a coach on The Voice UK, The Voice Australia and The Voice Kids UK.

She was, however, planning a comeback to music in 2025 – eight years after her last album was released, before she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She was preparing for an appearance at the BAFTA’s when she found a lump and went to get it checked out.

She later told fans in a moving Instagram video that she had undergone surgery to remove one of her breasts, and explained that she needed to have a second surgery.

She was forced to cancel the rest of her tour dates as the was waiting for reconstructive surgery.

She has since returned to the stage for her No Secrets Tour and seems to be doing well.

What what was she like when she was younger? One social media user, who went to secondary school with the singer, shared her story on Reddit.

She said: “I went to secondary school with Jessie J. She was the year above me but we had mutual friends and lived close so would sometimes walk to and from school together.

“She was really sweet, never b****y or competitive with other girls. Quite shy generally. Won every single talent show (obviously) but never showed off about it.”

Another user said: “I remember watching a festival on tv, and she was the only artist that introduced the rest of the band. She seemed genuinely nice.”

A second said: “I used to follow Jessie J when she was starting out. Videos of her singing in her room etc. The talent was/is staggering. She seemed nice then too. Humble.”
