Shubman Gill’s India lost by two wickets to Mitchell Marsh’s Australia in the second ODI of the three-match series at Adelaide Oval on Thursday, October 23. Australian spinner Adam Zampa was awarded ‘Player of the Match’ for his strong 10-over bowling in the first innings. Zampa took four wickets and gave away 60 runs, keeping an economy of 6.00.

At the same time, Shubman Gill joined an unwanted group. He became the sixth Indian captain to lose his first two ODI games as captain. The first to do this was Ajit Wadekar. Before the 50-over series with Australia began, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made Shubman Gill the new ODI captain after removing Rohit Sharma from the role.

Shubman Gill made his first ODI appearance for Team India in 2019 against New Zealand. Since then, he has played 57 ODI games, scoring 2,794 runs with a strike rate of 99.28 and an average of 57.02. The 26-year-old has hit eight centuries and 15 half-centuries in ODIs for India.

However, in the current ODI series, Gill has not performed well. In the two matches played so far, he has scored only 19 runs with a strike rate of 70.37 and an average of 9.50.
