Aasif Sheikh was born on November 11, 1964, in Delhi, in a middle-class business family. His parents encouraged and supported his dream to pursue acting in television, all the while maintaining his humble and grounded personality. He moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting after having spent most of his life in Delhi. Aasif is an alumna of Zakir Husain College, Delhi University, after completing his schooling from St. Anthony’s School in Delhi. His passion for acting shifted his focus from academics to pursuing a career in acting and pack up his life in Delhi and moved to Mumbai. Although he did not reach this high on the ladder right from the beginning, it was his persistence and hard work that made him reach so high up the ladder of success. Asif started his journey with theatre, polishing his acting, expressions and dialogue delivery. Working in the theatres gave him the much-needed confidence to approach working in television and films.

Aasif first gained recognition for his role in TV serials Hum Log and Yeh Chanda Kanoon Hai, but they did not add up to the stardom he was about to receive. Aasif’s breakthrough came with his casting in the TV serial Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain as ‘Vibhuti Narayan Mishra’. Aasif’s character became a household name and brought him a huge wave of recognition, fame and success over the years. In the serial Aasif did not just portray the flirty, comedian husband, ‘Vibhuti’, he also played female characters, which added to his comic brilliance and versatility as an actor. The serial has been such a hit among the audience that it has now released as a movie on February 6, 2026. 

Aasif has been recognised in the Limca World Book of Records for having played over 350 distinct characters on the renowned show, Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain, including more than 35 female roles, from young to elderly. For nearly a decade, his comic timings, versatility and ability to adapt to any role he is fit into have kept the audience hooked to the show and appreciate his character even more.

What is Aasif Sheikh’s connection with Salman Khan?

Over the course of Aasif’s career, he has made some beautiful bonds and friendships, but what stands out the most is his extraordinary bond with Salman Khan. Aasif and Salman have known each other long before his stardom as ‘Vibhuti’. They crossed paths around the same time, and both of them stepped into the showbiz. Coming from a film background and strong industry connections, Salman’s career took off rapidly, but Aasif had a slow rise to fame and recognition.

Asif has often acknowledged his friendship with Salman Khan during his interviews. Aasif is married to Zeba Sheikh, who is a fashion designer, and the couple share two children, named Mariam Sheikh and Alyjah Sheikh. He won the ITA Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role in 2016 and continues to be celebrated for his impeccable humour and personality.  Aasif has also won the Indian Telly Award for Best Actor in a Comic role, and is recognised as one of the most consistent actors in Indian Television. Aasif Sheikh carved a unique place for himself in the world of television and cinema with some major roles.
