TEHRAN – Amirmahdi Alavai, spokesperson of the Football Federation of Iran, the national team will play two friendly matches on March 27 and 31, respectively.
“The Iran national football team will face the Nigeria national football team in a friendly match on March 27,” Alavi said.
The encounter is expected to test Team Melli against one of Africa’s traditional football powers.
He added that, according to the scheduled plans, Iran’s second friendly will take place on March 31 against the Costa Rica national football team.
The matches are part of preparations led by head coach Amir Ghalenoei during the upcoming FIFA international window.
By selecting opponents from two different continents, the federation appears determined to challenge the team against varied playing styles ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Iran are drawn in Group G along with Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand.
