TEHRAN – The commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) released a statement on Thursday honoring the life of the martyred head of the Basij force, describing him as a true product of the Islamic Revolution whose legacy will continue to guide future generations.

Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, who has recently taken the helm of the IRGC, paid tribute to Major General Gholamreza Soleimani, the chief of the Basij Organization of the Mustafafin (Oppressed), who was martyred on Tuesday as a result of Israeli-American aggression.

The message, directed at the Iranian nation, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, and the family of the martyr, stressed that the commander’s life was deeply woven into the fabric of the Islamic Republic’s history.

General Vahidi praised Soleimani as “one of the commanders nurtured in the school of the two Imams of the Revolution,” referring to the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini, and his successor, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He characterized him as “a living example of the jihadi and revolutionary spirit.”

The statement emphasized his enduring service, from the years of the Iran-Iraq war through to the present day, painting a portrait of a man defined by “courage, commitment, and strategic insight” in every command role he held.

General Vahidi specifically highlighted Soleimani’s leadership of the Basij, the volunteer paramilitary force, crediting him with bringing “prudence, creativity, and transformative management” that introduced both strategic and operational advancements. As the main force safeguarding Iranian streets during times of war and national crises, the Basij, under his command, established security checkpoints and maintained order, ensuring the safety and stability of communities across the nation.

He noted that the martyred commander played an “unparalleled role” in strengthening the Basij’s capacity to serve the “deprived and oppressed strata,” particularly during “the most sensitive historical moments and times of national and revolutionary need.”

Beyond his formal accomplishments, the statement also reflected on the personal virtues that defined Soleimani’s legacy. Vahidi described him as embodying “the spirit of sacrifice, humility, sincerity, and steadfastness in the field of action, along with a deep commitment to the ideals of Islam and the Revolution.”

This legacy, the IRGC commander wrote, “will forever remain in the historical memory of the Iranian nation, particularly among the guardians of the Revolution, and the young generation, today and tomorrow.”
