She described Islamism as a political doctrine that rejects individual liberty.
New Delhi: The US National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, has made a strong statement regarding Islamic ideology, calling it a threat to American values. During a public discussion, Gabbard argued that Islamism is incompatible with the foundations of American Freedom. She distinguished Islamism as a political ideology separate from the religion of Islam.
Referring to developments in some parts of the country, Gabbard claimed that attempts are being made to implement Islamic principles through the legal and political systems.
‘Paterson, New Jersey, Prides Itself On Being The First Muslim City’
She said, “Paterson, New Jersey, prides itself on being the first Muslim city. They are trying to impose these Islamic principles on people through laws or violence.” She added that similar trends are visible in other places as well. Earlier this year, at the beginning of Ramadan, the mayor of New Jersey, referring to the city’s Muslim population, had said that Paterson is the fourth holiest city in the world.
‘Threat To Individual Liberty’
She said, “This is already happening in places like Houston. This is not something that might happen. It is already happening here within our borders.” Gabbard drew a clear distinction between religious freedom and Islamism. She described Islamism as a political doctrine that rejects individual liberty.
‘Incompatible With American Values’
Gabbard said, “The bottom line is that when we talk about the threat of Islamism, there is no such thing as individual liberty or freedom. It is completely incompatible with the foundations of our country.” She argued that the American system is based on the belief that freedom is inherent; it is not granted by the state. Gabbard said, “When we understand that our freedom comes from God, not from anyone else, then we understand the seriousness of the threat posed by this Islamic ideology.”
