TEHRAN – Following the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an Israeli-U.S. airstrike on his office on Saturday morning, a top Iranian security official told a televised program on Sunday morning that the United States and the Zionist Israeli regime have “broken the heart of the Iranians” and in response “we will break their heart”.
“This incident is a very bitter incident for all the Iranian nation. It means that that the U.S. and Zionists, through their actions, have actually created a situation for Iran and the Iranian nation that must be said they have broken the heart of the Iranian people; we also will burn their heart,” stated Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
The Leader was martyred alongside his daughter, son-in-law, grandchild, and a daughter-in-law, according to statements by several Iranian officials.
A team consisting of President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje’i will lead the country until the next leader is chosen by the Assembly of Experts, said Mohammad Mokhber, Ayatollah Khamenei’s senior aide.
The Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), General Mohammad Pakpour, and Secretary of Iran’s Defense Council, Rear Admiral Ali Shamkhani, were also martyred on Saturday.
Ayatollah Khamenei was elected Leader in June 1989, following the passing of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Ruhollah Khomeini.
‘We will pass this stage honorably’
Elsewhere in his remarks, Larijani said the Iranian nation will honorably pass this stage as it has overcome calamities worse than this during the course of history. For example, he said the Mongols fully destroyed Iran in the 13th century but the Iranians rose again.
The top security official described the assassination of the Leader as very painful that has made the Iranian nation mournful, but as Imam Khomeini said such assassinations will make “our nation” stronger.
“With the grace of God, we will pass this stage honorably,” Larijani noted.
‘Israel seeking to break up Iran’
In the televised interview, Larijani also said the Zionist regime wants to break up the great country of Iran that is gifted with an ancient history and civilization in order to dominate the entire region.
“Plunder and disintegration are things that they are seeking,” Larijani remarked.
‘Iranian people won’t allow disintegration’
Larijani also said it is a wrong assumption that the Zionists are formulating in their mind to fragment Iran.
“Ther is no doubt that that the Iranian nation will become more unified and will not allow disintegration. The Iranians’ love for Iran is intrinsic and this imagination that they can achieve a result through such acts is wrong.”
Larijani also said Israel and the U.S. must know that they have put a “dagger in the heart of the Iranians” by martyring the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and therefore the Iranians will “put a dagger in their heart”.
In response to this assassination, he said, the Iranian Armed forces today will deal a greater blow to Israel and the U.S. by firing more missiles and drones toward them than yesterday (Saturday).
