Jack P Shepherd has portrayed David Platt in Coronation Street for over three decades, and he’s now hinted the ITV soap could play a part in naming his and wife Hanni’s new baby
Actor Jack P Shepherd has suggested he might name is child after his Coronation Street character. The television star, 38, recently announced that he and his wife Hanni Treweek are expecting a child, just six months after getting married.
Posting a video online about the pregnancy, Hanni said: “We’ve been keeping a secret…June 2026. Thank you so much to the dream team who made this so special for us.”
Jack, who plays David Platt in the ITV soap, admitted he might name his child after his character.
During a chat about his exciting news on the ‘On The Sofa’ podcast, which he co-hosts with fellow Corrie actors Ben Price and Colson Smith, the duo asked Jack what he and Hanni would call the child, to which he replied: “It was suggested that… I actually thought it would be funny.
“David. David P Shepherd. Don’t you think you think that would be…brilliant? The balls, the ballsy-ness.”
David first met wife Hanni when she worked behind the scenes on Coronation Street as a storyline writer and researcher.
The pair started dating in 2017 before Jack asked her to marry him in June 2024 whilst they were on a safari together in Tanzania. They later got married in Manchester Cathedral in July 2025 with their friends and family present for the important moment.
Jack’s co-stars were quick to congratulate the pair with Jack’s on-screen wife Julia Goulding writing: “Absolutely beautiful! Congratulations!! So happy for you both.”
Meanwhile, Alan Halsall added: “Congratulations!!! So happy for the pair you.” Andy Whyment said: “Congratulations to you both fantastic news.”
Jack’s baby news comes months after he ruled out appearing on another popular show, Strictly Come Dancing.
Speaking to the Daily Star at the National Television Awards, he said: “I wouldn’t ever want to do Dancing On Ice, but that’s finished now. But Strictly Come Dancing no, that’s on BBC, you have to leave ITV for that.”
Jack also told the publication that it wasn’t until a friend’s wedding that he and Hanni actually clicked. He said: “We got chatting, I made Hanni laugh, we had a couple of drinks and we flirted. That was it.”
Whilst Jack said he wouldn’t take part in Strictly Come Dancing, he has found success on reality TV after competing in ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother, which he won in April 2025.
