Aishwarya Rajinikanth has officially begun work on her next directorial venture, Texla. The film was launched with a traditional pooja ceremony in Chennai on Friday, marking the beginning of production for the project. Actors Jai and Suraj Venjaramoodu will headline the film.
Aishwarya Rajinikanth launches new directorial Texla
The upcoming project is being produced by Kannan Ravi. His production house recently backed Jiiva’s commercial entertainer Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimaiyil, and Texla marks its first collaboration with Aishwarya Rajinikanth.
According to early information about the project, Texla is set in a rural setting from decades ago. The story is expected to explore themes centred around children and their world, suggesting an emotionally rooted narrative with a nostalgic backdrop. While further details about the genre and storyline remain under wraps, the premise hints at a film that blends innocence, rural life and human relationships.

Music for the film will be composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. This marks the second collaboration between Aishwarya and the composer after their earlier project Vai Raja Vai in 2015. The makers are planning a multi-language release, with the film expected to arrive in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.
A collaboration of familiar names
Texla also marks an interesting coming together of talents from different industries. Tamil actor Jai will share screen space with Malayalam National Award-winning actor Suraj Venjaramoodu, who has steadily expanded his presence across South Indian cinema in recent years.
Aishwarya Rajinikanth began her filmmaking journey with the psychological drama 3 in 2012. The film, starring Dhanush and Shruti Haasan, gained attention for its emotional storytelling and the viral success of the song Why This Kolaveri Di. She later directed the thriller Vai Raja Vai in 2015. After a gap of several years, she returned to direction with Lal Salaam in 2024, which featured Vishnu Vijay and Vikranth in lead roles, while Rajinikanth appeared in a special cameo.
With Texla, the filmmaker appears to be shifting towards a rural period setting, signalling a fresh storytelling space in her filmography.
For Jai, the film adds another project to an already busy slate. The actor was last seen in Baby and Baby and currently has several films at different stages of production. These include Karuppar Nagaram, Sattendru Maarudhu Vaanilai and Worker.
Suraj Venjaramoodu, meanwhile, continues to build a strong cross-industry presence. The actor was recently seen in the Malayalam film Narivetta. He made his Tamil debut with Vikram’s Veera Dheera Sooran and has since lined up several notable projects.
One of his biggest upcoming ventures is Jailer 2, where he will share screen space with Rajinikanth. Suraj also has Bharathanatyam 2 — Mohiniyattam in Malayalam in the pipeline. On the Tamil front, he will be seen in Youth and Kara. Youth, which marks Ken Karunaas’ directorial debut, is scheduled to release in theatres on March 19. Kara, featuring Dhanush in the lead, is expected to arrive on April 30.
While details about the extended cast and crew of Texla are yet to be announced, the project already carries intrigue with its combination of a rural period setting, a story revolving around children and a cast that bridges industries. With Aishwarya Rajinikanth returning to direction once again, the film will be closely watched as more updates emerge in the coming months.
