Jalen Brunson’s role, hit-or-miss bench and more Knicks takeaways from Game 1

The Knicks completed an encouraging 119-111 season-opening victory over the Cavs on Wednesday night.

Here are 11 thoughts (Jalen Brunson’s number!) on what we saw:

1️⃣ The Knicks indeed relieved Brunson from bringing up the ball for much of his minutes — at least until winning time in the fourth quarter — while spreading out those duties.

It worked out well enough. Brunson didn’t shoot well, but the Knicks committed just 13 turnovers while handling Cleveland’s aggressive defense. On the first offensive possession of the game, for instance, Brunson ran around without the ball, ended up in a corner and nailed a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer. We didn’t see that much from Brunson, if at all, the past three seasons.
