Electricity and gas bills across Japan are set to rise in April, as government subsidies introduced to ease the impact of rising prices come to an end.

Ten major electric power companies announced their electricity rates for usage in April, with costs increasing nationwide.
For a standard household in the service area of Tokyo Electric Power Company, monthly electricity charges will rise by 458 yen from the previous month to 8,777 yen.
Meanwhile, the Japan Gas Association said that all four major city gas providers will also raise their rates for April usage.
In the Tokyo Gas service area, the average household will see gas bills increase by 193 yen from the previous month to 5,747 yen.
The primary factor behind the price hikes is the expiration of government subsidies for electricity and gas, which had been implemented as part of measures to counter rising living costs.
The latest increase in electricity prices does not yet reflect the impact of rising fuel costs linked to the situation in Iran, meaning there is a possibility that prices could climb further from May onward.
